Jolly Learning

Jolly Phonics

‘Jolly Phonics,’ is a systematic phonics programme which is designed to teach children to read. Your child will learn the 42 sounds of the English language, rather than the alphabet. He/she will be taught the letter sounds then taken through thestages of blending and segmenting words to develop reading and writing skills. This will help benefit your child to achieve full pronunciation of whole words.

This programme includes soundsheets, auditory training, reading books, writing and spelling tests. We will provide a workbook which your child will use each lesson.

A variety of other resources/materials to engage your child will be used such as; Puppets, visual aids, puzzles, games, Jolly songs and story books to help reinforce the phonic sounds. The interactive nature of learning Jolly Phonics makes it fun for kids.

Jolly Grammar

Jolly Grammar is the next stage, after a first year with Jolly Phonics. The materials provide guidance and resources to help teach grammar to children; it is active and multi-sensory, with emphasis on consolidating the children’s knowledge from Jolly Phonics and helping them develop an understanding of how grammar works.

By teaching key essential grammar rules, it helps children bring diversity to their writing and improve their spelling in a structured way.

Jolly Grammar teaches a wide range of language forms including the parts of speech, plurals, punctuation, and the tenses past, present, and future. It also teaches a wide range of spelling rules, including defining aspects such as the short vowels.

Jolly Music

What is Jolly Music? Jolly music teaches children music skills through singing. Research has shown that good music lessons will enhance learning in all other subjects. This approach uses singing as the basic means of working with children. The voice is the ideal instrument because we all have one and it is free!

Music is an essential part of children’s education. It stimulates the brain and helps enormously in a child’s whole-person development – physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually.

Kids Playhouse Jolly music (Beginners level) is targeted for children aged 3-6 years. Through repertoire playground rhymes and songs, children become aware of musical elements including, rhythm, pitch, loudness and speed. Each lesson consists of activities, songs, percussion instruments and games which support multi-sensory learning. We have carefully structured lessons to build the key musical skills of listening, singing in tune and inner hearing.
